It's not exactly the intro to "M.E.T.H.O.D. Man," but Drake's latest manages to namedrop Wu-Tang's "It's Yours" without totally disrepecting the Wu's legacy. As is typical of Drake, it's a partly sung emotional ballad—which has had quite a few Wu-Tang fans on Twitter furious—but if the 90s rap diehards can get past their initial anger, they might actually like what Drake's doing. The rapper's rhymes sound better than ever, and he and 40 have managed to create something pretty forward-thinking, crafting a catchy, atmospheric song out of only one verse and the gloomiest of piano beats (taken from the obscure Zodiac track "Loss Config"). The percussion seems to follow Drake when he croons; yet it holds its on during the more aggressive rapped bars. It all just works.
