The other week I caught Cris Cab's set at Santos Party House here in NYC. I have to admit, the young-Miami musican completely blew me away with his chillaxing reggae-pop-rap set, bringing out heavyweights like Wyclef Jean and Pharrell Williams. Today he drops a new track, "If You Only Had Today." It's breezy addition to your summer playlists.
See, here's what I like about Cris Cab: The guy knows how to make records with a laidback vibe. Unlike other rappers in the genre that spend way too much time worrying about their Twitter follower number or YouTube swagger, Cab excels at getting down to brass tacks and actually focusing on a high-quality musical product. With barefoot acoustic guitar rifts, punchy sax solos, and a backing band that knows how to actually jam on a reggae off-beat, Cab can set a mood for, say, a beach party in Negril or some simple summertime campfire chillin'. Call it barefoot music. Call it pop-rap. Whatever. It's cool. I dig what this guy is doing and can't wait to see what comes next.
Enough of my preaching. Just nice to have a breath of fresh air in the YouTube-generatio0n music scene every now and then. Here's Cris Cab's " If You Only Had Today." Listen and enjoy.
