Childish Gambino doesn't completely leave behind the introspective thoughts that characterized his recent Instagram notes ("I used to care what people thought, but now I care more"), but "3005" is a different breed from the darkness which forced Glover to clarify to People that he wasn't depressed. "3005" is a song about loneliness and insecurity, but also a girlfriend who holds him together. ("No matter what you say or what you do/When I'm alone, I'd rather be with you.") Which every taken dude can get behind.
His next album, Because the Internet, should solidly be on everyone's radar.
Also for what it's worth: the first verse carries maybe the first Young Lavish reference ever committed to a song. Gambino is a blogger at heart.
