The obviously fake yet entertaining rivalry between dopplegangers Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith came to a wonderful end last night, thanks to Jimmy Fallon. The two stars made good on their promise to have a drum-off for charity after some delightful trash talk on the Tonight Show set.

Smith led for most of the contest (because he’s an actual percussionist), but Ferrell cleverly produced a cowbell to summon the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who performed Don’t Fear the Reaper in period costumes. The Saturday Night Live-inspired bit was obviously enough to sway alum Fallon, and the comedian was named the winner.

It was the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first late-night performance in eight years. More importantly, it was 12 minutes of incredible television.

Fallon’s ratings are going to go through the roof if he can continue to find celebrities who look so much alike.
