10. Curren$y & Styles P – "The First 8"
It seems like Snoop and Khalifa aren’t the only two stoners linking up for collaborative projects. Curren$y and Style P linked up for a short 5 track EP with varied production that showcased their ability to entertainingly describe their favorite person: Mary Jane.
Standout track: Curren$y & Styles P - Lean f. Fiend (prod. Monsta Beatz)
9. Asher Roth -- "Pabst & Jazz"
Asher showcases a smoother side of his persona with this release. Exceptional production cuts from Chuck Inglish, Blended Babies, and a slew of others make the cut an epic feature and something we’ve been expecting from Asher for a while. Reaching out to good friends A$AP Twelvy, Action Bronson, and Chip Tha Ripper for guest verses allows for this to become a well rounded project. Plus it’s just good to see this guy move past the “I Love College” days.
Standout track: Asher Roth - Insurance f. ZZ Ward, Rockie Fresh, Blu (prod. Blended Babies)
8. Curren$y & Harry Fraud – Cigarette Boats
Continuing his passion for supplying his fans with as much new music as possible -- Curren$y linked up with hot shot producer Harry Fraud for a 5 track EP, Cigarette Boats. With features from recent collaborators and Jet Life tour members, Styles P and Smoke DZA, the entire tape flows seamlessly as Harry Fraud’s production becomes somewhat reminiscent of old school hip-hop. Curren$y’s consistent and never changing flow glide seamlessly over the jazzy production.
Standout track: Curren$y - Leaving the Dock (prod. Harry Fraud)
7. Chip Tha Ripper – "Tell Ya Friends"
It had been a while since we’d heard from the Ohio native, but returns off a brief hiatus with that classic drawn out flow and a mixtape that solidified him as one of the best up & comers. With production from heavy hitters Lex Luger, Chuck Inglish, Boi-1da, Hi-Tek and others, Chip laced the entire project perfectly with complimenting verses from Wale, Bun B, CyHi da Prynce and longtime friend KiD CuDi.
Standout track: Chip Tha Ripper - Boomshakalaka f. Bun B (prod. Woodro Skillson)
6. Childish Gambino – "Royalty"
The recent actor-turned-rapper releases his latest mixtape effort with epic production from both himself, skywlkr , and Toronto native Boi-1da. For this massive debut, Gambino recruited some close personal friends for guest feautures but also reached out to heavy hitters like RZA, Ghoseface Killa Schoolboy Q, Ab Soul and others for additional verses. The additional verse and production from Beck solidifies this as an indie classic, but the best feature entire tape comes from Gambino’s 30 Rock pal, Tina Fey as she spits the real on why the Royalty crew is “forever” on ‘Real Estate’.
Standout track: Childish Gambino - Bronchitis (prod. Beck)
