What’s hot this week in men’s fashion, gadgets, and gear

This weekly feature is a round-up, in conjunction with our friend Tim over at Cool Material, of the hot new products appearing online this week. From fashion tips to cool gadgets and gear, take a look at your new obsessions.

Converse

Converse Blacked Out Jack Purcells
Converse just released these all black Jack Purcell sneakers which feature a black suede upper complete with a black toecap and rubber sole. Laces, cork footbed and eyelets don’t stray from the motif either. Approximately a billion times better than those discount Reeboks we wore on the job.

Amazon

Amazon Fire Phone
The Amazon Fire Phone does include the much talked about 3D display that allows you to tilt, swivel and navigate menus with one hand. The dedicated Firefly button gives you the ability to identify movies, songs, shows and products with a simple press and hold of the button, and the screen measures a respectable 4.7″. It packs a quad-core 2.2GHZ processor, 2GB of RAM and a 12MP camera. Another nice little touch is the set of magnetic ear buds that will remain tangle free (not a big deal, but nice).

Chrome

Chrome Handmade Sneakers
Forged Rubber sneakers are made by hand, one at a time, on 70-year-old machines we salvaged from Slovakia. Forged Rubber™ is a slower, more bombproof way to make vulcanized shoes. The rubber is harvested from nearby rubber tree farms and forged directly to the canvas upper at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The result is a bond that is durable, a sole that is incredibly flexible, and a shoe that can survive the city. Chrome Forged Rubber™ is the most resourceful way to make the most durable city sneaker.

Cool Material Shop

Timex Weekender Leather Strap
The Timex Weekender is one of the most iconic and affordable watches ever created. What makes it even better is the fact that you can toss on a custom strap to change its appearance, which is exactly what we’ve done here. We’ve paired the classic watch with an oil tanned leather strap that’s made in the USA to ratchet up its style points. The 3 ring zulu strap is handmade out of 4-5 oz oil tanned pull-up leather and is hand saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread for added strength

Earin

Cordless Earbuds
Quite simply, the new Earin earbuds from former Sony Ericsson and Nokia engineers are the smallest, cordless earbuds on the market. The balanced armature speakers that Earin uses are more commonly found in pro in-ear monitors and hearing aids, so you get the best possible sound out of the small package. There are no cords. There are no cables. There is no standard bluetooth wraparound that will constantly rub against your neck while you’re working out. The entire solution is the two tiny earbuds, powered by high-density rechargeable batteries, the stash case that charges them but is also small enough to hang on your keys and a USB cable for recharging the stash case battery.

Shoulderpod

Professional Camera Rig for Smartphones
The Shoulderpod Smartphone Rig bridges the gap between smartphone and professional camera with a tripod mount, filmmaker grip and traveler stand. The 3 in 1 concept is pretty simple to operate. Open the adjustable grip and then tighten down the rubber pads on your smartphone of choice with the thumbscrew. If you just want the stand function, you’re done right now. If you want your phone on a tripod, screw the tripod into the base. Using it as a filmmaker grip only requires sliding the handstrap (this is optional, but a good idea) over the grip knob and then screwing it into the tripod hole. One device. Three functions.

Braven

Bluetooth Bathroom Speakers
1200 mAh battery good for 10 hours of wireless audio. Speakerphone. Minimal buttons. Quality design. The big deal is the IPX5 water resistance. According to Wikipedia, that means, “Protected against water jets – Water projected at all angles through a 6.3mm nozzle at a flow rate of 12.5 liters/min at a pressure of 30 kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters.” You can’t replace your rubber ducky with the Mira, but it will be fine if you use the attached hook/stand to hang it on your shower head. The app that’s available for the phone also allows you to make custom playlists using Spotify or music stored on your phone.

Kirin

Frozen Beer Slushie Maker
What should you do after you’ve just had a big meal with a few beers? Have another beer for dessert. The Frozen Beer Slushie Maker from Kirin adds a frozen head to your favorite beverage for a frosty treat. You may have seen the idea before, Kirin actually started doing this a few years back and even had the boozy treats served at Dodgers Stadium, but now you can have the technology right in your home. The frozen foam that floats on top of your Ichiban (or any beer) will actually also help keep your drink colder, longer. It’s never too early for a beer, and now it’s never too late.
