7 shirts to keep you cool this summer

By / 06.12.13

It’s summer again and the weather will soon be heating up. That means it’s time to trade in your winter threads for some light weight materials. Here are 7 shirts that will keep you cool and looking good as you navigate all of your summer adventures.

1. The Gap Rugby Polo

Gap

Gap Shirt – $29.95

Some things need not be fucked with and the Gap rugby polo is one of those things. There’s nothing high tech about this shirt but its short sleeves and breathable cotton make it clutch on a hot summer day. The Gap polo is cheap and does the job just as well as, if not better than, its competitors.

2. Gant Yale Co-op Rugger

Gant

Gant

Gant Yale Co-op $115

This is the shirt that you want to wear on a night out. The Gant Rugger is a classic American shirt and their Yale collection was originally made for the New Haven Co-op store in the 1960’s. These re-issued shirts aren’t too dressy and will give you that Ivy League appeal.

3. Uniqlo Madras

Uniqlo

Uniqlo Madras $29.90

Uniqlo is the Japanese version of H&M and makes great fitting inexpensive clothes. Try one of their madras pattern button downs. Madras is a lightweight cotton that has it’s origins in east India and is typically a summer material. Unfortunately Uniqlo still only has stores in New York, but their website carries a variety of shirts in different sizes and colors.

4. Suit Supply Linen Dress Shirt

Suit Supply

Linen Dress Shirt $129

If you don’t know about Suit Supply then you’re missing out. The Dutch retailer specializes in great fitting suits and suit accessories at affordable pricing. This linen shirt is perfect for the office on those brutally hot summer days. Linen breathes, so if you can’t wear a polo to work this will give you a business look without causing you to sweat through your expensive shirt.

5. J. Crew White Oxford

J.CREW

White Oxford $69.50

J. Crew has come a long way in the last few years. Their menswear line boasts wearable clothes that a guy can feel comfortable in. Their lightweight washed poplin is no exception. This shirt looks great with a pair of khaki shorts and a tan. So roll up the sleeves, throw on a watch, and you’re good to go.

6. The H&M T-Shirt

hmprod

H&M

Grey T-Shirt $9.95

The grey t-shirt needs little explanation. That being said H&M is making shirts that fit and feel better than the other brands. There are more breathable fabrics on the market but they just don’t look as good. And at $10 a shirt you can afford to sweat through these and buy new ones. This is a basic t-shirt done right.

7. Lands End Canvas

lands

Lands End

Canvas Button Downs $29.99- $68

Lands End may remind you of something someone’s dad wears, but their new Canvas line has modern colors and cuts. These shirts will get the job done in any casual setting whether it’s a 4th of July barbeque or a baseball game. They also won’t break the bank, which is always a good thing.
