Wendy’s 99-cent menu just got spicier

Wendy’s

The battle for fast-food budget supremacy rages on. Wendy’s just launched two new limited-time chiptole sandwiches that are sure to be a clown-shoe kick to Ronald’s gut.

The new additions to the 99-cent menu are the Spicy Chipotle Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Spicy Chipotle Jr. Cheeseburger. I’ll admit that if I see “chiptole” (or cajun) in a title I’m probably going to order it. I’m a sucker for spicy. Each includes Pepper Jack cheese, jalapeños and a signature spicy sauce. They used some additional adjectives in their description, but I’d hate to be circumlocutious.

Unlike most places that lie about an item being a limited-time so that have an excuse to abandon it if it doesn’t sell, Wendy’s means it. They introduced the pretzel bun a few months ago and said it was only through Novemeber. Even though they sold a hyperbolic billion of them, come December they were gone. In fact, I got the last one at the Wendy’s in downtown Chicago, and it was obvious that it was two days old. Totally worth it.
