Starbucks Frappuccino Truck slinging coffee curbside

Starbucks

As if there weren’t enough Starbucks in the world, there’s now a Frappuccino Truck slinging classic ‘Bucks beverages and new summer treats. The new mobile Starbucks means you’ll never have to walk all the way to the corner again.

There’s currently only one Frappuccino Truck in existence, so odds are you won’t actually be stopping by anytime soon. That doesn’t make it any less titillating for the coffeemongers of the world. This could be the future of caffeine!

The Frappuccino Truck began its journey in San Diego and has now taken up residency in Los Angeles, where it will remain until June 15th. This could simply be a publicity stunt, but if so, it’s a terrible one. Odds are this is the first you’ve heard of it, and the truck has been on the streets since May 15th. There are much better uses for a coffee wielding Starbucks truck though.

It’s likely that Starbucks is testing the idea to see if it’s worthwhile. You don’t just roll out in force. You see if people dig the food truck style, and if so, then you start building an armada!

The Frappuccino Truck is also a brilliant way to scout potential locations. What’s better than a mobile pop-up shop? I assume that the locations they’ve chosen to drop emergency brake are ones which Starbucks believe could use a coffee shop. They look at the area more closely if sales for the day are solid. They move on if there doesn’t appear to be demand. It’s essentially self-funding market research.

Whether or not we get a brightly colored Frappuccino Trucks rolling down every street is yet to be seen, but it’s a safe bet that if food trucks continue to be a mainstay, coffee won’t be far behind. The real surprise is that it took this long.
