Ronald McDonald has a new look, and joined Twitter, so it’s officially a mid-life crisis

After God knows how many years of MC Hammer pants and a one-piece jumper, Ronald McDonald went clothes shopping and has a new look.

He didn’t hit up Nordstrom or a trendy boutique. Nope. He went back to the clown department of his local costume shop and picked clothes a new look that’s a little more 2002. At least he’s getting closer to modern.

Ronald McDonald will be sporting a new wardrobe, which includes yellow cargo pants and a vest, accompanied by a red-and-white striped rugby shirt. His iconic big red shoes will remain the same. Reserved for special occasions, Ronald has a whimsical new red blazer with the Golden Arches on the front pocket and his well-recognized signature on the back, and a special bowtie to complete the look.

What man DOESN’T own a red blazer for special occasions? Well played, Ronald. Rugby shirt for the days spent magically enticing children to ingest sesame-seeded death and a blazer to hit the town at night to spend all the loot made off paying people a few shekels over minimum wage.

Ronald doesn’t just have a new look. He’s now on social media. I take back the joke about bringing Ronald up to 2002 standards. The new Twitter account firmly plants the creepy clown into 2008.

For the first time, Ronald McDonald will take an active role on McDonald’s social media channels around the world and engage consumers using the #RonaldMcDonald hashtag.  As Ronald begins his journey, he seeks to deliver on the mission: “Fun makes great things happen” – the idea that moments of fun and enjoyment bring out the simple pleasures in life and can lead to acts of goodness.

Let’s hope Ronald’s early days in social media goes a little smoother this time around.
