Cheesy Garlic Bread wins Lay’s flavor competition

Facebook

Lay’s has announced the winner of their “Do Us a Flavor” competition, and it’s Cheesy Garlic Bread. Talk about a supersonic upset special, how could Sriracha possibly lose? The internet has failed.

While Cheesy Garlic Bread won, the real winner is the flavor creator, Karen Weber-Mendham. I use the term creator very loosely because all she did was blurt out the idea. She didn’t actually do anything. She’s just won the easiest $1 million of her life. It could be more than that if the chips sell well because she’s also eligible for 1% of the flavor’s sales if they do well, but I don’t see that happening.

The flavor was one of 3.8 million ideas submitted, so I’m sure she was just the first of many to suggest it. Talk about a first mover advantage. Weber-Mendham said that the inspiration came from her kids. She’s apparently a terrible mother (kidding) and doesn’t let her offspring order appetizers. The only exception is garlic bread at Italian restaurants, to which she always adds cheese because she’s from Wisconsin. SO basically she won because she’s selfish.

I think we’re all disappointed that Sriracha didn’t win. That was the only flavor that I actually liked. I thought the Chicken ‘n’ Waffles and Cheesy Garlic Bread were honestly terrible. I guess it’s back to the drawing board for everyone’s favorite hot sauce.
