7 unique ways to mix it up for National Margarita Day


February 22nd is National Margarita Day, but that doesn’t mean you should just go to Chi-Chi’s and order the house special. Live a little and try one of these unique margarita recipes. Each will make you a significantly more interesting person.

Ay Diablo

AY Chiwowa

1.5 oz dioso silver
1 oz tazo tea passion fruit syrup
1 oz domaine de canton
1 oz fresh lime juice

Shaken and served into a margarita glass

Rita Rioja

Avion

1 1/2 oz. Tequila Avión Reposado
3/4 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
3/4 oz. Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
Fresh Red Pepper
Cilantro

Muddle a fresh red pepper and a few leaves of cilantro in a cocktail shaker. Add Tequila Avión Reposado, fresh lime juice and simple syrup. Fill cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a salt rimmed cocktail glass.

Ruby Margarita

Partida

1 ½ oz Partida Reposado Tequila
1 ½ oz Fresh Ruby Red Grapefruit juice
½ oz Cointreau
½ oz Fresh squeezed lemon juice
½ oz French Cassis.

Shake the first 4 ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Dribble the ½ oz French Cassis down the inside of the glass so it will settle at the bottom.

Seven Peaks Margarita

Don Julio

1 1/4 oz Tequila Don Julio Añejo
1/4 oz Grand Marnier
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup
1 Ginger Slice
1 Apple Wedge
1 Persimmon Wedge
Apple and Persimmon Fan for Garnish

Muddle ginger, apple and persimmon with the lime and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.
Add Tequila Don Julio Añejo and Grand Marnier to the shaker with ice and shake well.
Double strain into double rocks glass filled with ice.
Garnish with an apple and persimmon fan.

Jasmine Tea Margarita

Olmeca Altos

2 parts Olmeca Altos Reposado
1 part lime juice
½ part agave syrup
4 parts jasmine tea

Build up all ingredients over ice.
Stir in chilled glass.

Frozen Tamarind Margarita

Hyatt

2 oz. Tequila (Jimador Blanco)
1 oz. Tamarind juice
1 oz. Lime Juice

Blend with a scoop of ice and pour into a Margarita glass with or without a salted rim.

Prankster Margarita

Suerte Tequila

2 oz Suerte Blanco
.75 oz lime
.75 oz simple or agave syrup
.25 oz St George Absinthe

Shake ingredients and pour over fresh ice in glass with a tarragon salt rim.
Tarragon salt: whiz some fresh tarragon with some sea salt and a touch of sugar in a spice grinder.
Garnish on the rim: a lime wheel on the side of the glass with a tarragon sprig slid inside.
