Blood Orange Margarita for Cinco de Mayo

Avion | Colin Joliat

We’ve been sent dozens of “must-try” cocktail recipes for Cinco de Mayo, most of which have been some spin on a margarita. Only one stood out from the crowd though, and that’s the Blood Orange Margarita recipe from Tequila Avión. Yes, the same tequila with which you became so familiar on Entourage.

I highly recommend making your own sour mix instead of buying it at the store. It couldn’t be much easier. Make a simple syrup by mixing a cup of sugar and a cup of water and bringing it to a boil to dissolve the sugar (or shake it very aggressively while cold). Add in a cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 4 lemons) and a half of a cup of lime juice (about six limes). You’re done. That’s it. There’s no excuse to buy terrible pre-mixed stuff at the liquor store.
