A $40,000 Ruby Red Cocktail, because why not?

Cocktails are starting to get pretty pricey in cities, but not much compares to this $40,000 cocktail from the White Barn Inn in Kennebunk, Maine. If your girlfriend even suggests this jokingly, break up with her immediately. She can’t be trusted.

The drink, which will be available June 1 through the end of the year, is made with Hanger One Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate and a spoonful of rosewater.

Oh, yes — it also comes with a 4-carat ruby.

I’ve had that cocktail, minus the rosewater and ruby, a few different times, and it’s damn good. You can have that for a unfortunately reasonable price of $18. Buying one with a ruby in it, though, is stupid. Do you know where I buy my precious gems? Jewelers. That’s right. I buy very expensive objects from people who specialize in selling very expensive objects. I don’t turn to those whose specialize in showing discretion during wealthy patron’s weekend getaways for my rare gem appraisals. I’m sure someone will buy it though just to say that they did.

The Rub Red Cocktail is a celebration of the White Barn Inn’s 40th anniversary, and as much as I might mock it, you can’t knock the idea. It’s free publicity from schmucks like me. Then again, I’m not sure any of the people who will be dropping that kind of cash have ever heard of Guyism.
