“Power Laces! Alriiight!” That's what Marty McFly joyously exclaimed when he snapped into a pair of Nike Air Mags in 1989's "Back to the Future II." For years fans of "Back to the Future" have been waiting for Nike to release the ultra-high-top Air Mags, the "sneaker of the future" (or at least 2015, the year BTTF II is set) complete with automatic laces and flashy, glowing LED lights. Don't get your hopes too high, but, according to quite a few sneakerhead sources, some of the coolest movie sneakers to never exist are about to exist. The evidence: A blogger from NiceKicks is currently in L.A. on a press trip for the big reveal. Nike's PR is showering him with all sorts of 80s-themed goodies. Also, a few days ago the YouTube account DocEmmettBrown88 dropped the "McFly's" teaser showing off a closet of Air Mags. And, Great Scott, they look awesome.
Personally, I think these look awesome. But, then again, I'm a mid-20s 80s baby who remembers just how coveted "Air Mags" were as a kid. 22 nostalgic years later, these bad boys still capture the imagination. But, will younger generations embrace these throwbacks-that-aren't-really-throwbacks like they have with Charlotte Hornets snapbacks? I hope so, even though I doubt Nike will have a hard time moving these novelty kicks. I WANT THEM!

Next up, the hoverboard...
