Yesterday, we brought you video of a special report by Xi'an Up Close, a Chinese investigative news show, that thought it had discovered a new type of mushroom. In the news clip, the reporter says that "the object looks very shiny, and it feels really fleshy and meaty too." Xi'an Up Close also reports that it's so rare "even the village elder, who is 80 years old," has never seen it before.
As it turns out, the village elder probably wasn't into rubber vaginas, which the "mushroom" turned out to be. Both the reporter and the news station have since been widely mocked for the mistake, and today they apologized to the public.
Xi'an Up Close posted an apology on their Sina Weibo page, blaming the mix-up on the Ye. "As our reporter was still very young and unwise to the ways of the world, this report has brought great inconvenience to everyone," read the statement. "We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for your criticism and correction. Please forgive our oversight!"
I love how formal and sincere the apology is. And how it mentions that the report "brought great inconvenience." Trust us—anytime a news broadcast accidently shows a sex toy on air, you are not inconveniencing anyone.
