A Washington 7th grader was turned from mild-mannered student to hero when he took control of a runaway bus when the driver went unconscious because he suffered a heart attack.
When Jeremy Wuitschick's bus driver fainted and lost control of the vehicle, the Surprise Lake Middle School student sprung into action. Video from a security camera on the bus shows Jeremy racing over to the driver to grab the wheel, then steering the bus carrying 15 students towards the side of the road and pulled the keys from the ignition. The quick-thinking youngster said this about the frightening situation, "I knew something was wrong. It was pretty scary. I was just acting on instinct. It was all happening really quickly."
John McCrossin, the director of student programs for the school district happened to be driving behind the bus when he noticed the vehicle veer off to the side of the road. McCrossin ran onto the bus to discover the driver unconscious and not breathing. Then he began performing CPR until paramedics arrived at the scene.
