Technology is constantly re-shaping the way we live our lives, and smoking herb is not immune to the wave that is sweeping over us. Even though the old joint, blunt, and glass pipe definitely get the job done, there have been some recent technological improvements that take smoking to a different level. Most of these products aren’t available online since there can be legal complications shipping pipes to certain states (that’s how the Man railroaded Tommy Chong, even though he had nothing to do with the business except being the mascot) but you can find them at nicer head shops where prices may vary. Here are 10 must-have pieces of weed technology.

WISPR Vaporizer by IOLITE
Vaporizing is really the new smoking. It filters out almost all the solid toxins and makes the best use of the weed. The WISPR is awesome based on its size and portability alone (it is about the size of a pack of cigarettes). The purpose of this pocket vaporizer is to be as discreet and easy to use as possible. It is basically the one-hitter of vaporizers. Running on butane, the WISPR holds enough fuel to stay powered for three hours at a time. The mouthpiece is collapsible so it looks like nothing more than a box at first glance. This stealthy device costs between $200 and $300. Find it here.

Ash Catcher Percolator
Ash catchers are pieces that fit in your bong that allow you to put the slide piece in them as opposed to directly in the chamber so ash doesn’t dirty up your bong and bong water. So it’s perfect for lazy smokers. Ash catchers aren’t new, even though they are sold in a relatively small number of shops, and there are several generic and name brand versions on the market. Some ash catchers, like this one featured on smokewire.com, are special in that they filter the smoke a second time through a percolating bubbler system in the ash-catcher itself. It is essentially a waterpipe that you smoke out of a larger water pipe, doubling the filtration. These things only run from $50 to $80 and are completely worth it in time saved cleaning your bong alone, not to mention how much better the smoke is with it. Find it here.

VaporBlunt Portable Vaporizer
The VaporBlunt is exactly what it sounds like. It is the latest in portable, digital vaporizers. You no longer must pay $600 and up for bulky, plug-in vaporizers to get your vape on. The battery-powered VaporBlunt, while not as small as the WISPR at 10.5 inches long, is still quite portable and heats up in only about a minute. You could really carry this thing around in your pocket if you wanted to (is that your VaporBlunt or are you… never mind). You can now get a quality vape while on the go. This piece of “toke”nology will set you back between $200 and $250. Find it here.

PH(x) Honeycomb Diffused Waterpipes
Of all the methods used in high-tech bongs to make the smoke smoother and to give an all-around better smoking experience, PH(x) has developed one of the most unique. In order to aerate the smoke, they have added a one-of-a-kind honeycomb-shaped filter that sits over the chamber. The smoke is forced through the tiny holes and separates, which mixes it with oxygen and cools it, before being inhaled. This is one of the most awesome pieces in existence and its price reflects that. The cheapest of PH(x) pipes start in the low $200s but the premium ones with the honeycomb diffuser run from $500 to $600. These definitely aren’t for the dudes that bitch when you toss a roach. Vortex Cold Fusion
The Vortex Cold Fusion waterpipe is hands down one of the best bongs ever made. It is constructed of five detachable pieces for easy cleaning. The heart of the piece, and reason for the name, is the two-foot glass coil that carries the smoke from the chamber to the mouthpiece. The coil can be removed and frozen before smoking. When used with ice water in the chamber, it delivers one of the coldest, smoothest hits around. It also comes with an ash-catcher with its own removable, freezable coil and a cushioning bottom grip to prevent breaking. The Cold Fusion runs around $200. Find it here.

Helix 3 in 1 Pipe
Grav Labs has been known for creating some pretty awesome pipes in recent years. Of all of these ingenious new pipes, the Helix 3 in 1 Pipe — with bowl piece attachments for a bubbler, a one-hitter, and a regular pipe (which is awesome enough by itself) — has completely redefined the glass pipe with its revolutionary stem. It is in the shape of a grooved, rounded cone and gets smaller as it gets towards the end. This shape causes a mini vortex inside the stem, which aerates and cools the smoke resulting in a hit smoother than a water pipe. With the bubbler piece attached, it is magnificent. This piece will set you back about $150 to $200. Find it here.

Silver Surfer Vaporizer
The Silver Surfer allows you to give your vaporizer that personal touch with several awesome accessories and a “create-your-own” design option. Of the several, interchangeable attachments Silver Surfer offers with its signature vaporizer, the best has to be the Vapor Tamer. It is a long, fat glass mouthpiece that has a cooling coil running through it. They also have ice chamber add-ons that can be used to cool the smoke even further. If you’ve ever vaped before, you know that it is pretty smooth. But the Silver Surfer and its cooling attachments will give you a vape to remember. It will set you back $270 for the vaporizer alone. But you might as well buy the ice chamber and the Vapor Tamer while you’re at it. Find it here. Up next, a few cool accessories...

Natural Rolling Papers
Remember a few years ago when they came out with those all natural, clear cellulose wraps? Yeah, they sucked because they were difficult to roll with, they burned poorly and unevenly, and at first glance it looked like you were smoking a crack pipe (and they went out so much you had to light them every five seconds like a crack pipe). Well, the all-natural part was pretty cool so several brands of natural papers not made out of a plastic-like film have become popular. Most widely available are hemp papers and rice papers. I recommend the hemp papers because they don’t tear as easily. They really do taste better and the idea of not smoking bleached and processed wood pulp doesn’t hurt either. Find it here.

Stealth Scale
We’ve all seen these novelty stealth scales at smoke shops. This one, which looks like a computer mouse, is probably the most incognito I’ve ever seen. It might seem kind of sketchy that you have a random computer mouse in your center console, though, so it’s probably best for home use. You shouldn’t ride around with scales anyway. Not only will it mess them up, but you might catch a bullshit charge for selling too. Find it here.

Nug Jugs
These are about as low tech and old as you can get, and you see them in every smoke shop but nobody ever has one. This simple glass container with a cork lid is so simple, yet brilliant. If you have overly dry bud, you put it in the jar, get the cork top moist, and cover it. Leave it in overnight and your bud will moisten up. I recommend this thing to anyone that will listen. It is the best bud container you can get and you can get small ones for as little as $10 to $15. Find it here.
