This Bro Couldn’t Afford Bail So He Gave The Judge His New Sneakers Instead

How stoned do you have to be to think posting your brand-new sneakers as bail is a good idea? Not as high as the judge who actually accepted it, though. Jason Duval from Framingham, Massachusetts is that hilarious bastard who pulled off this stunt, and Douglas Stoddard is the judge who let him.

Duval was hauled in by police this past Thursday for failing to pay court fees stemming from his previous charges in 2012 — he was arrested for possessing Class B and Class C substances (i.e. a shit ton of drugs). So you just know this guy is already an upstanding citizen. Since he hadn’t paid his previously owed $450, he was brought before the judge. But this guy couldn’t even pay his bail because, according to The Metro West Daily News, he was going through a divorce. And that’s when he got creative.

“I’ll give you a chance to be creative,” Judge Stoddard told him. “If you can come up with a creative idea to convince me that you’ll come back, I’ll work with you.” So Duval thought of something so crazy that it worked: he offered up his pair of new Nike’s, valued at $85. And the judge replied, “OK, we’ll take them.”

Of course, the guy still has to do 10 hours of community service and make $100 worth of payments in $25 weekly installments, but he’ll get his sneakers back when that’s all said and done. That’s a pretty baller move, if you ask us.
