Man Checks Into Hospital for Routine Surgery, Wakes Up with Vasectomy

You go under to fix a minor urological problem; you wake up shootin’ blanks. Welcome to ER, starring idiots.

Doctors at the Royal Liverpool Hospital are apologizing “unreservedly” today for accidentally performing a vasectomy on a guy who was admitted to not get a vasectomy. Apparently there was a mixup and a surgeon got confused and operated on the “wrong site” and, look, these things happen all the time, alright? Don’t turn it into a big thing. JUST DON’T.

From the Telegraph:

“We can confirm a patient who was scheduled to have a different minor urological procedure was wrongly given a vasectomy,” Dr Peter Williams, the hospital’s medical director, said in a statement. “We have apologized unreservedly to the patient and we are offering him our full support. We greatly regret the distress this has caused him… This is a serious incident and we are investigating this fully to understand why it occurred and how we can ensure it does not happen again.”

A lawyer told the Telegraph that the hospital could be on the hook for as much as $170,000, especially if things aren’t reversible. So look on the bright side, man: you’re saving MILLIONS in future childcare and the hospital is throwing you some short-term coin. If anything, you should be paying them!

Just… just trying to help.
