The 80's are grossly important to the education of any Bro. It was the decade where the movement arguably got started, with people making big-time money on Wall Street, embracing a system that rewarded excess, hard work, and celebrating both of those. Greed was good, and taking ownership was essential.
Whereas many a modern-day Bro prob doesn't remember the 80's (such as myself), it is pretty important to be well-versed in the decade. For the reasons above, yes, but also for 80's parties college and postgrad girls seem perpetually obsessed with. References to John Hughes movies never hurt a dude trying to close.
1986 seemed like a good year.
