This Parody Of Taylor Swift’s ‘Welcome To New York’ Is So Dumb, It’s Hilarious

YouTube

I will stand by my previous statement that the first song on Taylor Swift’s 1989, “Welcome To New York,” is a festering pile of garbage. Brilliant music/pop culture critic Paul Cantor has said it’s the anthem gentrified NYC in 2014 needs, but I don’t think Swift’s touristy ode written from the top of her $20 million Tribeca penthouse does the city justice. It’s like a white girl composed a song about NYC based solely off of chai lattes from Starbucks and watching reruns of that MTV The Hills spin-off about Whitney Port, The City. It’s awful.

Insert blogger Dan Abromowitz‘s parody of Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York.” He first laid out the lyrics here and then turned it into a snazzy little jingle about hop-on, hop-off buses and how the entire borough of Queens confuses the PR industry transplants who live within a 10-block radius of The Joshua Tree. In fact, I think the only thing most Murray Hill residents know about Queens it’s where that weird Theatre School friend of a friend who always keeps showing up at people’s birthday parties lives. Hence the constant invitations to Astoria. And the Bronx? Great for getting day drunk at Yankees games then Ubering back because 4 Train… Ew.

My favorite part is that the bar pictured in the video is the Cheers bar… in Boston. It’s so silly yet brilliant. Enjoy:
