A Kentucky Bar Is Taking Its Yearly Allotment Of Pappy Van Winkle And Making Jell-O Shots With It

It was Michael Caine in The Dark Knight who said, “Some men just want to watch the world burn.”

The line was in reference to a jewel thief who was robbing caravans just for the fun of it, then instead of selling his stolen treasures, tossing them back into the jungle like trash.

Louisville bar Meta appears to take that ethos. Because, instead of massively marking up its allotment of Pappy Van Winkle it gets from the distillery and selling single pours, Meta is making Old Fashioned-flavored Jell-O shots and selling them for $10 a pop.

That’s right, Pappy Van Winkle Jell-O shots. Says Meta’s owner, Jeremy Johnson:

It’s a way to have a little fun with how ridiculous it’s gotten. The hoops we’ve had to jump through to get just a little bit [of Pappy] is ridiculous. So this is a fun way to say, ‘Don’t forget about the other bourbons out there,’ and also to celebrate Pappy time.

Dude is a dadaist. Respect that. Because, all it really is whiskey. Plain and simple. Whiskey ain’t supposed to be fancy. It’s supposed to be drank.

(Full disclosure: I am an admitted Pappy-craze hater. I think the hullabaloo is stupid.)
