Last Night’s Oregon Mall Mass Shooting Was Captured by a Chilling Police Scanner

Sad, sad stuff from Oregon last night: A mall, teeming with holiday shoppers, was the scene of a rampage perpetrated by a masked gunman with an assault rifle and a bulletproof vest. Now, after 20 shots were fired, three people lay dead (including the shooter, via a self-inflicted gunshot wound), and one young woman is critically injured. The gunman was believed to be in his early 20s.

Reuters deputy editor Matthew Keys captured the moments on the Clackamas County police scanner after the law enforcement officers got the call and made it to the Clackamas Town Center. It's a frightening 24 minutes, and if you don't have time to listen to the whole thing, fast forward to the 14-minute mark—the moment that officers made it into Macy's and found where the shithead did his damage. Kudos to the officers for walking into what they thought was an active scene, and our condolences today to anyone affected by this tragedy.

Also yesterday, North Korea launched a long-range rocket that may have been a sign that they're considering military action with their Southern neighbor.

So, yeah, this is a rough morning. Anyone else down to see that video that will restore a little faith in humanity?
