Video obtained by 60 Minutes shows never-before-seen footage from the 1991 Battle of Mogadishu, the U.S. Special Forces raid in Somalia that became the basis for the movie Blackhawk Down.
The video shows the actual crash of Super 61, the first of two Blackhawk helicopters that were shot down by Somali militants. The two crashes changed the nature of the raid, and the subsequent rescue mission led to the death of 19 U.S. soldiers. This week marks the 20th anniversary of the raid, and 60 Minutes is doing a special feature on the events, with newly disclosed footage and a one-on-one interview with Norm Hooten, who was in charge of the elite U.S. special ops team Delta Force that day. Count us among the people who will be watching.
