This is just flat-out incredible. A 16-year-old Miami teen was fishing with his buddy when he was accidentally shot, leaving him with a spear protruding end-to-end through his skull and brain.
Nasser Lopez survived the June 8 accident which occurred as the teen swam in a lake near his southwest Miami-Dade home with a 15-year-old friend. The friend was loading the spear gun when he touched the trigger, sending the three-foot long spear zooming toward Nasser.
On Monday, the doctors from the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Army Trauma Training Center staff that helped treat the teen revealed at a news conference the unbelievable X-ray.
The bottom line: Nasser is lucky to be alive and recovering.
“It’s a miracle the spear missed all the main blood vessels of the brain,’’ said neurosurgeon Ross Bullock, a neurosurgeon. Nasser remains in serious condition.
Lopez’s story was featured on the “Today Show” this morning, where they painted a somewhat optimistic picture about his condition.
Here’s hoping he’s able to make a full recovery.
