Morgan Freeman Didn’t Give the Quote on the Sandy Hook Tragedy That’s Been Going Around Facebook

Anytime there's a tragedy, we tend to turn to our more respected voices to get their thoughts on why these awful things are happening. And who better to turn to after Sandy Hook than the guy who made a career out of playing kindly gods and grandfathers, Morgan Freeman? If you're scared and freaked out, you want to hear Red Redding tell you that everything is going to be okay.

Which is why this quote below has been shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter (and by Piers Morgan) since Friday—despite it not actually coming from Freeman.

Freeman's reps denied today that the actor was responsible for the quote; meanwhile, some dude named Mark has taken responsibility for it on Reddit. But we'd advise you to take Mark with a grain of salt, too. As Abraham Lincoln famously said, "The problem with Internet quotes is that it's difficult to confirm their veracity." Wise man, that Honest Abe. He killed vampires.
