An Arkansas woman was arrested for child endangerment this week after filling her baby’s bottle with bourbon and giving it to him.

28-year-old Lori Sheppard was also charged with aggravated assault. According to police, she asked her mother for advice on what to do with her teething baby. Sheppard’s mom recommended an old Southern tradition, which is to rub some bourbon on the gums to help with the pain.

Sheppard, however, filled a bottle with bourbon. She then left the home and returned to find her 10-month-old “unconscious and unresponsive.”

The baby was hospitalized with a blood alcohol level of .19, but was eventually discharged from the hospital.

Sheppard was held on $10,000 bond.
