Mississippi Man Wakes Up in Body Bag After Being Pronounced Dead

Walter Williams, an elderly man from Lexington, Mississippi, was declared dead in his home on Wednesday night. A coroner zipped him in a body bag, took him to a funeral home, and left him there to be embalmed on Thursday morning.

One problem: Williams wasn’t dead. According to WAPT News, the probably-not-still-employed Lexington coroner took Williams’ pulse after his pacemaker briefly stopped working. When it kicked back in overnight, the poor guy began kicking inside his body bag—he was immediately rushed to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition. “I don’t know how long he’s going to be here, but I know he’s back right now. That’s all that matters,” his nephew told WAPT.

It’s 2014, and you can still be mistakenly declared dead. Hey, have fun sleeping tonight! I’ll be putting this in my will.
