It wasn't too long ago that we hid in our fallout shelters, holding loved ones close and stocking up on rations while waiting out the end of the zombie apocalypse. Victim One, you may remember, was Ronald Poppo, a poor homeless guy from Miami who barely survived a face-eating attack by the deranged Rudy Eugene.
Poppo gave his first lengthy interview about the attack today, and the details are disturbing. Poppo says that for a "very short amount of time" he thought Eugene was a good person. That changed, though, as Eugene showed deranged behavior because he was upset he couldn't score drugs. Eugene moved to attack Poppo and said a line right out of a disturbing horror flick: “You’re going to be my wife and this is going to be a Lover’s Concerto.”
Then, he mashed Poppo's face into the sidewalk, putting him in a wrestling hold while attacking him.
Sgt. Williams asked Poppo what Eugene was saying when he attacked him.
“‘You, me, buddy, and nobody else here,’” Poppo recalled. “‘I’m gonna — gonna kill you.’ Or something like that, I guess.”
“Did he say why?” Williams inquired.
“No, he just started to scream,” Poppo explained. “And was talking kind of funny talk for a while too.”
“What do you mean by funny talk?” Williams asked.
“That I was gonna die. And he was gonna die,” Poppo said. “He must have been souped up on something.”
Poppo is now blind in both eyes and faces a long recovery. Eugene was killed by police officers on the scene.
