Foodgasm: McDonald’s Selling Sweet Potato Fries, Bacon Pop-Tarts, Cheese As Addictive As Drugs, Ben & Jerry’s Beer Ice Cream And Meet Pizza Raccoon

There was a lot of delicious food news this week and maybe you were too busy stuffing your fat face to notice.

McDonald’s has made a turnaround in sales recently, and it’s not from their grey burger. It’s actually a subtle, yet significant change to their breakfast menu staple, the Egg McMuffin.

From Fortune:

Earlier this year, the world’s largest restaurant chain replaced margarine and reverted back to its original recipe that used butter. That back-to-basics approached led to an immediate double-digit percentage increase in sales of the Egg McMuffin, executives said on a conference call on Thursday.

In other McDonald’s news, the fast food giant will be selling sweet potato fries.

“”But there’s a catch, it will only be tested out in Texas. Don’t mess this up for the rest of us Texas. McDonald’s has been serving them at international locations for while, but this is the first time they’ve been featured in America restaurants.

Scientist people say that cheese is as addictive as drugs. My fat belly and lack of willpower couldn’t agree more. In a recent study, published by the US National Library of Medicine, researchers examined why certain foods are more addictive than others. The researchers utilized the Yale Food Addiction Scale, a study of 500 students that identified addictive foods. The study seems legit because pizza was the most addictive food on the list. And now there’s a scientific reason we all love pizza, and that gooey-gooey cheese plays a huge part. One of the ingredients in cheese is casein, a protein found in all milk products. During digestion, casein releases opiates called casomorphins. When cheese is combined with processed foods and foods with higher fat content and glycemic load (GL), it becomes even more addicting. The more processed and fattier the food, the more addicting it is. Well, no shit. They spent all that money on this study when they could have just observed my post-drinking smorgasbord on a Saturday night. Cheesus is the way, the truth, the life.

Do you realize that next year is the 50th anniversary of Pop-Tarts? To celebrate, everybody’s favorite toaster breakfast pastry will debut five crazy new flavors over the next six months: Chocolatey Caramel, Maple Bacon, Watermelon, Frosted Spring Strawberry and Pink Lemonade. Starting in mid-December, Kellogg’s will unveil their most interesting flavor, Maple Bacon. Huffington Post describes the savory breakfast treat, “Maple and bacon-flavored filling in a golden crust, topped with sweet white frosting and salty, smoked-flavored crunchlets.” Mmmmm smoke-flavored crunchlets. I feel like it would be sacrilegious to pop the watermelon and pink lemonade flavored Pop-Tarts into the oven.

Back in April, I told you that there was going to be a Ben & Jerry’s Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale. Now they’re flipping the script and making a beer-flavored ice cream. The Vermont-based ice cream gods are teaming up with New Belgium Brewing from Colorado, to bring you the beer-flavored ice cream called “Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale.”

The boozy ice cream has chunks of malty brownies along with salted caramel to highlight the hops in the beer. But don’t expect to get wasted on the ice cream because there is nearly zero alcohol. It’s a seasonal flavor and will only be available for approximately four months. The best part is that a portion of the proceeds go to supporting the organization Protect Our Winters, a climate advocacy group run by people in the winter sports community.

With the enormous popularity of pizza rat, of course there are going to be imitators. The newest pizza loving creature is this raccoon. Pizza raccoon was spotted this week at the Conservancy Garden in Central Park. Nothing like taking in the changing colors of autumn from a spectacular view as you indulge in all that carbohydratey goodness.

“”How about some #FoodPorn? This super cheesy torta Cubana doe.

Coach’s Bar & Grill in Overland Park, Kansas knows how to celebrate the Royals going to the World Series.

Need a scary good libation for your Halloween party? Steal this very adult take on the spooky holiday. Park Avenue’s bar director Bryan Schneider and bartender Shane O’Neill invented the Autumn Daquiri. It features Diplomático Venezuelan rum, cinnamon syrup, nutmeg, lime and the best part is the candy corn ice. They freeze mango puree and heavy cream to make the candy corn ice.

This towering monstrosity of amazingness definitely seems the way to nurse a hangover at NYC Bar & Grill in the U.K.
