Yesterday afternoon, the Bros over at Brocrastinator tipped us off to this hasty email a landlord sent to one of their friends. Accordting to one of the guys at Brocrastinator, "During the year, my friend and his two roommates wreaked havoc on their pretty nice apartment, although they did repair and clean most of it. So this summer, my friend asked his landlord if he would be receiving his $500+ security deposit back." See the email below.
Joe,I’m not going to waste much more of my time considering the lack of respect demonstrated by you and your roommates with the total destruction created to unit 422 at Park Mountain apartments. If you can’t remember how you left the unit here is a list of charges whichexceeded any security deposit with which we held.1. Chipped ceramic tiles in kitchen (16) pieces which had to be replaced not sure how that was done maybe you can tell us? Now floortiles do not match due to color of old tiles verses color of new ones $575.00.2. Multiple holes in sheetrock which had to be repaired not counting center wall that had to be redone due to your ability to repair onyour own $275.003. Clean entire unit $285.00 it only took 2 girls 11 hours4. Broken entry lockset / missing door knob on laundry door / $1255. Estimate to replace kitchen counter tops due to burnt hole on top $3756. Estimate to repair solid wood floor with several burnt holes all way through repairable finish $12007. My time above and beyond normal turn over of apartments 8 hours $400As you can see I can’t believe you remotely thought you may be entitled to any kind of refund in fact we are considering taken youand your roommates to small claims court to recover additional repair charges to put unit back in the condition it was when you moved in. Also for your information if you or your roommates are missing any drug paraphernalia please contact the town police.Thank YouSee you in small claims court
