The homeless hitchhiker, Kai—who saved a woman from a racist, deranged attacker and then gave one of the most memorable interviews in the history of interviews—is now wanted for murder. Needless to say, the story of one of the Internet's favorite memes has taken a dark, dark turn.
Kai (aka Caleb Lawrence McGillvary) is reportedly wanted by the Union County, New Jersey authorities for questioning in the death of 34-year-old Joseph Galfy, who was dead in his home Monday from blunt force trauma. Kai is on the run and was last seen seen at a light rail station in Haddonfield, New Jersey. He's believed to have cut his long hair. There's a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
From ABC 7:
He is also known as Kai Lawrence, Caleb Kai Lawrence and Kai Nicodemus.
The victim, Joseph Galfy, was found inside his home on Starlite Drive on May 13, 2013 after officers received a call to check on his well-being.
An autopsy performed the following day determined that Galfy died as a result of blunt force trauma, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Based on the investigation, authorities know that McGillvary has cut his hair in an attempt to alter his appearance.
Anyone who has any information should call Crime Stoppers (908-654-TIPS).
