Joe Rogan Explains That Society Is A Trap And How You Got Stuck In A Shitty Job

You’re probably reading this right now at your shitty job. You’ll do anything to avoid actually doing your menial tasks. You’re wearing clothes that you definitely don’t wear outside of work and you’re not talking like you talk outside of work. You don’t want to be there. You never did. You somehow just got trapped there. Because of bills, wanting a new car or just wanting enough money to feed yourself you were forced to work at your soul-crushing job.

Stand up comedian, mixed martial arts fanatic, UFC announcer, psychedelic adventurer, podcaster and philosopher Joe Rogan is here to inspire you to chase your dreams and ditch your shitty job.

This audio from The Joe Rogan Experience podcast is from September of 2013. It has recently been edited with music added and since gone viral.

Rogan questions our society and why we have to have shitty jobs. He describes the distinct difference between work and contributing. He recommends that people chase their dream instead of getting caught in the “society trap.”

Rogan suggests that we need to restructure society to where people are expressing themselves in unique ways, but still contributing to the human race. He imagines a world where everyone borrows, shares, barters and sells their contributions to each other.

“We got sidetracked and diverted into these boxes, that they call ‘companies’ and ‘corporations.’ And we got stuck in these containers that they call ‘cubicles’ or ‘offices.’ So our time, instead of it invested in making pottery or fixing cars or doing something where you have a passion or connection to. Instead of that, you’ve sold your life to sit in a box and work for an uncaring machine that demands productivity. It doesn’t understand you. It doesn’t want to understand you.”

He delves into materialism and how we fool ourselves into working a crappy job because we work to get that big TV, shiny belt buckle or dream car. He describes how we are all just cogs in the machine of capitalism. It is quite the battle cry for the working shlub.

YEAH! FREEDOM! LET’S ALL QUIT OUR SHITTY JOBS TO FOLLOW OUR PASSIONS!!!

Fuck.

My passion is collecting Saved by the Bell VHS tapes.

That probably isn’t very profitable.

And my rent is a week late.
