Instagram Bans The Most Inoffensive Hashtag Ever

There are, without counting and just guessing, probably over a quarter of a billion hashtags on Instagram. Some are popular, some are jokes and some make absolutely zero sense. There’s one hashtag, however, that’s been absolutely erased from Instagram search and before you guess #penis, #cock, #vagina, #allupinyoass or anything else sexual just stop because you’re wrong.

The “offensive” hashtag is curvy.

According to Mashable, “it has recently come to the attention of the Internet that the hashtag #Curvy cannot be searched for on Instagram. When users attempt to search for the term, they are greeted with a host of alternative suggestions, such as ‘curvyfashion’ and ‘curvywomen.'”

Welcome back, since you clicked off to go to Instagram to search #curvy and came up empty. So did Mashable, so they reached out and asked “WTF?”

When asked about the hashtag, a spokesperson for Instagram confirmed in an email that #Curvy has been blocked for violating community guidelines. “I can confirm that we did block the hashtag #curvy. It was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity,” he wrote. “Please note that the block has nothing to do with the term ‘curvy’ itself.”

Users and pundits seem to think the ban is due to user objectivity, possible linked too many times to pornographic material, and not because Instagram has anything against curvy girls. There are still variants of curvy that are perfectly acceptable (adding anything to the word curvy will work) and the upset masses will soon either get over it or dump Instagram all together. It will absolutely be the former.

This is just one more reminder that while we all have social media accounts, were powerless against that powers that be.
