Summer Safety Tips!

This video from Veronica-Pooh Nash Poleate was uploaded to Facebook just a few days ago and it has since gone on to pick up over 9 million views, and for good reason. Veronica-Pooh is dropping truth bomb after truth bomb about shark attacks (or shark encounters) and how to avoid them. She makes some fantastic points. For instance, if a chicken enters her house she’s going to eat that chicken. She then moves on, talmbout how she’s a living flotation advice, and how if pigs enter her house they rule the place. Her ultimate message is for everyone to stay out of the ocean, which is some advice I really can’t get on board with, but that didn’t stop me from laughing my ass off at the delivering of her message. Here’s the YouTube version if you’d rather watch that than Facebook:

The timing of this video going viral is the only thing that really bothers me. As of yesterday it’s officially #SHARKWEEK on the Discovery Channel, which means our annual seven days of fear-mongering have arrived. ‘Shark Week‘ producers love nothing more than shows with cheap reenactments where some shark’s on a murderous rampage. This year there’s even a ‘Shark Week’ special with ‘Serial Killer’ in the title, because that’s where they think they get their ratings. What pisses me off about all that is that the best ‘Shark Week’ show of the past decade was easily the Mythbusters episode, where they actually refuted many myths about sharks. Nobody was attacked, there was no serious threat of murder, they just went about busting myths in the typical Mythbusters fashion. So the fact that this video’s viral arc coincides with a week full of fear mongering isn’t exactly great timing for sharks a species….That said, this sh*t was hilarious.
