It’s been over a year since  Anderson County High School janitor Ricky Spaulding has seen his son who is stationed overseas. In that time, Spaulding’s son has had a child, a grandson who Spaulding has never met. The entire Anderson County High School came together to change that. Over the course of the last year they’ve been raising money and this week they surprised Spaulding and his wife with the cash. And they did it on the day when Spaulding was wearing one hell of an incredible t-shirt.

According Lex 18 News:

Excited students and staff poured into the Anderson County High School gym for a pep rally which was the part of the cover for the surprise.

“They said they had a spill and of course that’s my job so I went to clean the spill up,” Spaulding said.

But instead of a mess, they presented him with a bag of money the students had collected totaling $1,900.

“My son is stationed in Italy and we are going to see him,” Spaulding said. “Words can’t describe the joy that I feel right now.”
