Here’s Footage Of The $300 Million Jewel Heist In London And It’s Pretty Much ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ IRL

Over Easter weekend, a group of professional thieves knocked off the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit in London, making away with an estimated $300 million in diamonds and gems. It’s been dubbed “the largest jewel heist in British history,” largely because many jewelers in London used the facility to keep their inventory in safe deposit boxes over the holiday weekend. Over 70 boxes were stolen.

The way they pulled the whole stunt off seems right out of a movie or a GTA V heist: They entered disguised as workers and slide down an elevator shaft to an underground vault. Police are still pouring over the scene of the crime for details (amazingly, a burglary alarm went off but it was never attended to) and there are some reports that it’s linked to the infamous Pink Panther group that knocked off jewelers in London in the ’90s.

Meanwhile, Scotland Yard has released some footage of the heist via security cameras. The video above shows the remarkable similarities to Oceans 11 and pretty much every other jewel heist movie ever made.
