According to this clip, alligators being born without a tail is actually one of the semi-common birth defects found in alligators. That said, as someone who grew up in Florida, was a Boy Scout and had to go camping in the swamps countless times, and went to a H.S. where we used to find alligators in the bathrooms (true story), I’ve never in my life seen this birth defect present in the wild.
