Remember The Guy Selling Emily Ratajkowski’s Thong On Craigslist? Turns Out It Was A Prank On A Bro Who Just Got Engaged…

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but a lot of what you read on the Internet every day is — um — total bullshit. Like that woman from West Virginia who was arrested for biting off a pitbull’s testicles? Total bullshit. That guy who killed his imaginary friend? Total bullshit. Those topless pics of Kendall Jenner you briefly got excited about? Total bullshit.

As a citizen of the Internet and an intelligent, well-adjusted human being, this shouldn’t be a huge realization — Jimmy Kimmel pretty easily proved how easy it is for the viral Internet to be fooled in an era of Twitter and Reddit years ago.

Today we are going to debunk another story that went viral last week: Remember that guy on Craigslist who said he was selling a thong Emily Ratajkowski left in his bathroom? Total bullshit, as many (wisely) suspected.

The guy selling said panties belonging to Ms. Ratajkowski sent me an e-mail to the Craigslist post last week. I noticed the not-so-subtle Me.Undies plug and his name from previous e-mails he’s pitched to BroBible. So I called him out on it being B.S. He hit me back:

Wow impressive detective work haha. yeah I know those guys although not officially associated with them.  We’re trying to mess with a friend who just got engaged – it’s his phone number listed.

In a way, it’s a pretty genius prank — list your buddy’s phone number on Craigslist so that he gets blown up 24/7 by a bunch of weirdos who want to buy a supermodel’s underwear. Your new fiancée gets pissed about creepy strangers asking if he hooked up with one of the most A-list supermodels in the world. Then you figure out what is happening — that it’s a pretty funny prank — and you have some laughs with your Bros over frosty beers in the backyard.

If I was on the receiving end of those texts from strangers inquiring about women’s underwear, my ribs would hurt from laughing after finally figuring out what was happening.

Here at BroBible, Matt ended up posting the story anyway since other sites were already nibbling on the prankster’s bait. So I told the Bro behind the Craigslist ad that we need to see some pics of the batshit crazy texts this man gets. Might as well laugh at creepy Internet strangers who want to buy Emily Ratajkowski’s panties. Today, for the follow up story, he delivered just that, along with a note about how the prank ended up:

He says he got more than 200 texts, highest bid was $500. TMZ left him a voicemail offering double whatever the highest bid was – I was in full support of selling them to TMZ for a G but he wasn’t into it as he felt the joke had gone on far enough haha. People’s tolerance for fun goes down after they get engaged haha, I bet if he hadn’t had to explain to his soon to be wife why his phone was blowing up with requests for emrata’s panties we would probably be $1000 bucks richer right now.

Broooooo. Why didn’t you sell! That’s easy money right there. Here’s a handful of texts from the creepy dudes who hit him up. It reaffirms my long-held belief that the Internet — while often wonderful and amazing —  is full of creepy, gross psychopaths.

I asked for more screengrabs, so stay tuned:
