El Chapo, World’s Most Wanted Drug Lord, Injured After Mexican Authorities Nearly Capture Him

Fugitive drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman makes yet another daring escape. Mexican authorities confirm that they injured the infamous drug lord during a police operation to recapture him.

Guzman, head of the Sinaloa cartel, escaped from a maximum-security Altiplano Federal Prison in July of this year. Mexico’s most wanted drug kingpin went into the shower stall and slipped into an underground tunnel and utilized a modified motorcycle to speed out of the prison.

On Friday, Mexican officials informed the public that Guzman suffered face and leg injuries as he narrowly evaded a police operation to recapture him in north-west Mexico, not far from Guzman’s native Sinaloa state.

“As a result of these actions, and to avoid his capture, in recent days, the fugitive engaged in a hasty retreat, which, according to the information received, caused him injuries to one leg and the face,” the statement said. “It’s important to clarify that these injuries were not a product of a direct clash,” it added. “The security cabinet continues to conduct all actions that will allow the recapture of this criminal.”

Guzman was first arrested in Guatemala in 1993 and spent nearly a decade in another maximum-security Mexican prison before escaping. He was on the lam for 13 years before being captured again.

Now excuse me while I go watch Narcos.
