New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is under fire from PETA after video of showing him – GASP -- squishing a spider during a meeting with schoolchildren in his office came to light Friday.
Seriously, this happened.
In a statement provided to TPM, Ingrid Newkirk, president of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, described Christie's killing of the spider as a thoughtless act.
"He probably did it without thinking. Some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary to people, and that can prevent them from pondering their worth," Newkirk said.
PETA also got upset with Barack Obama in 2009 when he swatted a fly during a television interview.
So be sure to carefully consider your actions the next time you’re presented with a pesky insect. BIG PETA is always watching.
