When you're facing down one of these beasts, though—as many of you may have done, in your head, right before you swim into the ocean—there's no time to think of the paradox of the shark. It's a time to discover how fucking scared a human being can get.
Fisherman Isaac Brumaghim found this out recently as he reeled in a tuna while piloting his kayak off the coast of Oahu. And when confronted by the shark, he goes through an amazing range of emotions. Deadspin's Barry Petchesky sums it up well: “Brumaghim's reaction is perfect. Shock, distress, expletive, euphoria.”
