I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there have been a couple of documented cases of people contracting Ebola in the United States. Actually you can’t possibly escape the media’s fear-mongering of the virus that has infected only nine Americans. However the mainstream media is portraying the disease as the next Black Plague, despite science declaring that it is not airborne, not as contagious as one would believe and that the American health system is far superior to the equivalent in West Africa where it has killed 4,500. All those facts haven’t stopped various media channels from utilizing the opportunity to scare the population into consuming more news, which garners more pageviews, newspapers sales or selling a few more television commercials. The same can not be said with the British media. Russell Howard, comedian and host of the funny, topical news show Russell Howard’s Good News , displays the stark difference between U.S. vs U.K. Ebola news coverage. Howard took clips from assorted British television news programs which seemed very calm and reasonable. Then he gathered various American television news programs which would make you believe that we are in the grips of a calamitous world-ending zombie apocalypse. Russell then shows a YouTube video of an American man most worried about Ebola because the first victim was a Black man, which in his words, “gives White bitches more excuses not to have sex with Black guys now.” Okay, now it’s time to panic!
