Frighteningly Beautiful Photos & Videos Of Erupting Calbuco Volcano That Looks Like The Apocalypse Has Arrived

The angry 9,000-foot Calbuco volcano erupted on Wednesday and spewed a massive ash cloud over the skies of southern Chile. Lava poured down the majestic volcano and threatened the small cities of Puerto Varas, Puerto Montt, Pucon and Ensenada down below. Authorities ordered the evacuation of 1,500 inhabitants and at least three flights were canceled. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

Calbuco, which is 620 miles south of Chile’s capital of Santiago, last erupted in 1972. It is considered one of the top three most potentially dangerous among Chile’s 90 active volcanoes.

The beautiful billowing clouds could be seen from as far as 30 miles away. The fiery red hue of the ash clouds dominated the skyline as lightning streaked over the volcano. The imposing scenery was eerie and scary, almost like the apocalypse was about to happen.
