50,000 Americans A Year Are Killed — At Work?

Work can kill you. Seriously. Like murder kill you.

New research shows eleven Americans die at work each day. Each day! Say good buy to Carl in payroll. He’s dead soon.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in recent years, an average of 11 Americans die on the job every single day and another roughly 50,000 die annually because of illnesses they contracted on the job — meaning that working kills roughly 54,000 Americans every year (and injures millions more).

You’re probably thinking “yeah, but those are like construction workers, and other people who didn’t pay attention in high school. Those people get killed in dangerous jobs.” True. But your desk gig might also end your life.

Indeed, more than 400 people in BOTH professional and business services jobs (these include things like accountants, lawyers, engineers and architects) and government jobs died at work in 2012.

So this makes me ask — do you think your job will eventually kill you? And if so, will the stress kill you or will something land on your head? Let me know in the comments. Maybe we’ll even find you another job, you poor bastard.
