The 100 Most Popular Dog Breeds In America Are Proof Dog Owners Are Crazy Basic

The American Kennel Club has released their data on the most popular dog breeds in America, and the rankings look pretty much the same as they did last year, and the year before that, and the same as every year that the ACK has collected data. Thus proving that American dog owners, for the most part, are just insanely basic people.

The American Kennel Club is our nation’s registry for all all purebred dogs. If your dog is purebred and you live in America, you can register with the AKC and it allows them to keep track of both the most popular dog breeds in America, but it also enables them to track things like congenital birth defects across species. This data was released at the end of February, but it’s basically showing the final numbers for 2014 (which are presumably cumulative, meaning that the rankings include the total number of each breed alive and registered with the AKC, and not just dogs registered in 2014).

For the 24th year in a row the Labrador Retriever claimed the #1 spot, as the lab is without question America’s favorite dog. The French Bulldog is the biggest shaker-upper in the game as it jumped into the top 10 for the first time in over 100 years, occupying the #9 spot on this list of America’s Most Popular Dog Breeds. Pugs saw a huge drop to #32 after occupying the #17 spot just six years ago, and Great have seen a rise in popularity in the same time period, rising to #15 from #21. So, without further ado, here are the 100 most popular dog breeds in America!

Seriously, the abomination/hellhound known as ‘Chinese Crested’ is more popular than the dalmatian? The dog voted as the ugliest animal in the world is more popular in the USA than the firehouse dog?! What the hell is happening to society! I know that dalmatians have a reputation of being ‘biters’ but every dog’s demeanor comes down to how it’s trained and the owner. We need to really get those dalmatians back in the top 50.
