Brommunity Guidelines

The Brommunity is an open forum where BroBible users can write personal stories; seek advice; vent about college or work; share your opinions, ideas, links, videos, photos; and more. The more you dive in and contribute posts and comments, the more valuable the Brommunity becomes.

Although many other sites have message boards or newsfeeds, few have content creation systems for their readers as robust as the Brommunity. We consider the Brommunity, then, a privilege: both for our readers who have a forum to share their stories with their peers, and also for our editors, who always welcome more voices to the conversation.

With privilege comes responsibility. In the Brommunity and also within the commenting sections of all stories, videos, and slideshows, a Bro should feel encouraged to engage in a free-spired discussion or debate with his fellow Bros, so long as it follows these basic rules:

  • No full proper first and last names, including those of your friends, hookups, family, or other characters in your stories. Same goes for phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, Facebook links, social security numbers, credit card numbers, or any other identifying information. The story itself is always more interesting than the specific names and personal details.

  • No harassment or hate speech, which we define here as any story or comment or aside that demeans any group based on race or ethnic origin, gender, religion, disability, physical appearance, or sexual orientation.

  • No photos or videos depicting nudity of any kind, pornography, or sexual intercourse. Images with even partial nudity(breasts, buttocks, etc.), — typically considered "NSFW (Not Safe for Work)" — is also now forbidden. This is a recent change in site-wide policy, and applies to the Buzz, Videos, and Girls sections, as well as the Brommunity. Links to other sites with NSFW content or advertisements may be removed.

  • No photos or videos depicting illegal or otherwise despicable acts. This includes depictions of sexual assault, explicit drug abuse, underage drinking, bomb-making, animal cruelty, child exploitation, graphic violence, terrorism, discrimination, and hate crimes.

  • No mentions of drunk or otherwise intoxicated driving. Seriously. We have a site-wide ban on any mentions of drunk driving, except when in reference to how stupid and irresponsible it is. Bros don't drive drunk. Give your keys to a sober friend, call a cab, walk home, whatever. And don't include mentions of drunk driving in your stories. We will delete them.

  • No stolen content; original content only, please. Do not cut and paste published, copyrighted work from around the Web or elsewhere. Excerpts are fine (use quotes or italics) to indicate which content is not your own. The same goes for photographs. Do not post copyrighted photographs.

  • No posts devoted entirely to links or story excerpts from your own blog/site. These will be removed immediately, no questions asked. The best way for you to draw attention to your site is to Suggest a Link to the editors via the Tip Off the Editors contact form on the site. We promise that, if we like your site, we'll send you more traffic via a link in one of our daily roundups than you can generate in a Brommunity post.

  • No posts devoted advertising you or your friend's company or commercial website. These will be removed immediately, no questions asked. If you believe BroBible readers would benefit from learning more about your products, send information to the editors via the Tip Off the Editors contact form on the site. We promise that, if we like your company, we'll send you more traffic via coverage than you can generate in a Brommunity post. And if you post in the Brommunity first or spam the site with comments related to your company or site, your posts or comments will be removed and we won't ever cover you.

  • No posts or comments related to fake IDs or the companies that sell them. We strongly discourage you from purchasing fake IDs through these sites. Any posts or comments related to fake IDs will immediately be removed, no questions asked.

  • No spam. You'll be banned.

The BroBible staff reviews posts and comments 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If a post or comment includes a violation of these guidelines, we will simply remove the content entirely. Readers can also play a part in this by flagging any and all content that you deem violates these guidelines.

The BroBible staff also rewards exemplary posts in the Brommunity by "Certifying" them. These stories are marked as "Certified" and promoted throughout the site. Some of these stories may even appear within the "river" of stories on the Buzz homepage. By submitting a story to the Brommunity, you grant the BroBible staff the right to promote your story as a Certified story.
