19-year-old Baruch College freshman Chun Hsien Deng is dead after taking part in a hazing ritual called "Glass Ceiling" over the weekend. The game, which is played outside, involves blindfolding a person and placing a heavy item on his back. He's then forced to make his way to someone calling for him, all while being tackled by frat members.
Deng suffered major brain trauma playing the game at a Pi Delta Psi retreat in the Poconos early Sunday morning. After he fell unresponsive, his future brothers waited an unknown period of time to take him to the emergency room of a Wilkes-Barre hospital. Deng was placed on life support, and he died soon after.
Pi Delta Psi has been suspended by Baruch. The police and the Monroe County district attorney are investigating Deng's death. Special emphasis will be placed on how long it took the frat members to drive him to the hospital; no ambulance was called and no medical attention was administered before then.
What a waste.
