Yesterday Jeopardy jumped on the Taylor Swift joke gravy train, offering the following clue: “2009's best female country vocal went to her for 'White Horse,' where (SHOCKER!) she goes off on an ex-boyfriend.”
Ouch.
As the Internet's leading Taylor Swift snarkologist, I must say this is a watershed moment for Taylor Swift snark. The running slow-burn of Taylor Swift jokes that started with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey at the Golden Globes has finally reached critical mass in the form of a Jeopardy answer. To put it bluntly, Taylor Swift has become such a one-trick pony in the cultural zeigteist that she's become a trivia question about ex-boyfriends. The all-caps “SHOCKER!” emphasizes just how much the world is over her broken heart, “boys suck!” schtick.
But maybe she's having the last laugh, rolling in $52 million dollars and trash bags of unopened fan mail that will never be read. Now let's go have appletini at brunch cause we're tweenty–twwwooowooo! and head down to the headshop to decorate our apartments like it's Alice in Wonderland.
